What is IM

Identity Management is a discipline that organizations use to authenticate users and manage digital identities.
Administrators use Identity Management to handle the authentication of users to prevent unauthorized individuals from gaining access to the network.
Identity Management solutions help strengthen IT security by strictly regulating the authentication of users before granting them access to a network. Some ways that Identity Management does this is by requiring multi-factor authentication and restricting access through MAC/IP address filtering.
Identity Management helps simplify the creation, maintenance, monitoring and deletion of user accounts inside a corporate network. If somebody attempts to bypass IT security by creating an account directly on a server, an Identity Management solution will detect that account and block it before it can be used. It can also streamline the onboarding and off boarding of new users by synchronizing with HR databases to automatically block accounts after access to the IT network is no longer required.
